Aleph Alpha

Aleph Alpha is a Heidelberg-based AI company focused on sovereign, enterprise-grade generative AI products and infrastructure, employing around 200 people across four German locations. It released Kolibri on 3 October 2026, a 78-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model trained to operate natively in German, with a technical report covering copyright, data protection and EU AI Act compliance.

In April 2026 Aleph Alpha announced a merger with Canadian foundation-model lab Cohere at a combined valuation of roughly $20B, with Cohere shareholders holding around 90% of the new entity. A definitive agreement was signed on 16 September 2026. As of 5 October 2026 the merger remains subject to regulatory approval and has not closed, so Aleph Alpha is still German-controlled. Once it completes, parent control sits with the Toronto-based Cohere group and this listing will be reclassified.
