Jimdo

Jimdo is a Hamburg-based website builder founded in 2007 by Fridtjof Detzner, Matthias Henze, and Christian Springub. The platform targets solopreneurs and microbusinesses with an all-in-one offering: AI-assisted site generation (the “Companion” assistant relaunched November 2025), online booking, e-commerce, smart forms, invoicing, and SEO tooling.

Jimdo emphasises GDPR compliance, European server hosting, and German-language legal templates (“warning-proof” imprint and privacy text) — a meaningful differentiator versus US incumbents. In April 2024 the founders bought back 100% of shares from Spectrum Equity (US) and Global Founders Capital, ending seventeen years of outside investor presence. The company is again fully founder-owned and operated from Hamburg.
