Otter.ai, Inc. is an American speech-to-text company based in Mountain View, California, founded in 2016 by Sam Liang and Yun Fu. Its product, Otter, produces live captions during a meeting and a written transcript afterwards, with speaker labels, summaries and action items.

Otter is best known for the meeting bot that joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet calls from a connected calendar and takes notes without anyone pressing record. The free tier covers 300 minutes a month, which is the number any paid alternative has to be measured against.

The company is US-incorporated and US-hosted, and processes meeting audio on American infrastructure — the point of friction for European organisations whose recordings contain personal data or commercially sensitive discussion.
