Tuta Mail arrives in the Nextcloud App Store
Two German providers wire their products together: attachments from Tuta Mail now upload to Nextcloud in one click, and Tuta Calendar events can generate Nextcloud Talk links.
Tuta published a Tuta Mail app to the Nextcloud App Store on 1 October, and shipped a matching Nextcloud plugin inside Tuta the same day. The integration is free. Both halves have to be switched on: an administrator installs the app on the Nextcloud instance, and the user enables the plugin in their Tuta settings.
Two things work now. An email attachment in Tuta Mail uploads to a Nextcloud folder in one click, and a Nextcloud Talk meeting link can be generated from the location field of a Tuta Calendar event. Sending files the other way — from Nextcloud into a Tuta message — is promised but has not shipped.
Tuta calls this its first officially supported plugin and says it has laid the groundwork for a wider plugin suite. The company’s framing is blunt: enough of a stack to quit Gmail outright and replace Microsoft 365, without falling back on an American provider for either mail or files.
Both companies are German, and both have been usable on their own for years. What has been missing is the join. Attachments, calendars and meeting links are precisely the seams where a half-migrated setup pushes people back to the incumbent suite — you leave Gmail, then find the file you need sitting in Drive. Closing that gap is worth more to a prospective switcher than another feature on either product.
One limitation matters for anyone on hosted Nextcloud rather than their own server. The app is installed instance-wide, so users on a managed instance depend on their provider adding it.
