Happy Scribe
AI Meeting Notes Ireland
Meeting notes and transcription in 150+ languages, hosted in the EU. Alternative to Otter.
Details
Happy Scribe is an Irish transcription platform that covers both halves of the job: a notetaker that joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls from a connected calendar, and a general-purpose transcription and subtitling tool for audio and video you upload.
Against Otter it matches the feature list and then goes further on languages — over 150 for speech-to-text and 80+ for translation, where Otter covers six. Speaker diarisation, AI summaries, action items, mobile apps with offline recording, exports to Word, PDF, SRT and VTT, and an API are all present. Processing is EU-hosted and GDPR-aligned, and a human transcription service is available per minute when machine accuracy is not enough.
The gap is pricing against a free incumbent. The free plan gives a one-off ten-minute trial of the AI services rather than a recurring allowance, and Basic at $8.50 a month includes 120 minutes — less than the 300 minutes Otter gives away for nothing. Pro at $19 a month and 600 minutes is the first tier that clears Otter’s free offer, so the honest comparison is a real monthly cost against zero.
The company is bootstrapped and founder-run, nine years trading, with no outside investors and no corporate parent.
About Happy Scribe
Happy Scribe Limited is a private company limited by shares incorporated in Ireland, company number 604917, registered at The Black Church, Saint Mary’s Place North, Dublin 7, and trading since May 2017. Its binding Terms & Conditions name that entity and state plainly that “These Terms & Conditions are governed by Irish law”, with the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts for business customers. No US entity appears anywhere in the document.
Ownership is unusually simple for a company of its size: it took no outside funding and remains founder-run by André Bastié and Marc Assens Reina, with the Irish register recording four shareholders and no corporate parent. The engineering and operations team works from Barcelona, but the legal entity is Irish, not Spanish.
The product spans AI transcription and subtitling in over 150 languages, a meeting notetaker that joins calls from a connected calendar, and an optional human transcription service billed per minute. Processing is EU-hosted and GDPR-aligned.
