Mollie is a Dutch payments platform built for European online businesses. It takes cards, SEPA direct debit, iDEAL, Bancontact, Klarna and the rest of the regional method set, handles recurring billing, and ships hosted checkout plus plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce and the other common storefronts.
The thing that distinguishes it commercially is onboarding: sign-up is self-serve, there is no monthly fee, and pricing is per transaction, which puts it within reach of small merchants that an enterprise acquirer will not contract with.
Mollie completed its acquisition of GoCardless around 1 September 2026, taking more than 90% of the shares for roughly EUR 1.05 to 1.1 billion; GoCardless now runs as “GoCardless, a Mollie company”. Mollie is the consolidator here rather than a target, and stays Amsterdam-headquartered and management-led.
Against a global processor the limits are reach and ecosystem: fewer non-European rails and a smaller developer ecosystem than Stripe’s.
