European alternatives to DigitalOcean Droplets
DigitalOcean Droplets are virtual machines sold the way developers wanted them before the big clouds obliged: a flat monthly price per size, a short list of options, a machine running in under a minute, and documentation good enough that its tutorials became the default reference for Linux server setup generally.
Switching away is comparatively light work. A Droplet is a plain Linux box, so the application moves with the usual rsync-and-restore, and the surrounding services — Spaces, managed Postgres, Load Balancers, VPCs — have straightforward equivalents elsewhere. What tends to hold teams is operational habit rather than architecture: the control panel, the CLI and Terraform provider, the monitoring alerts, and the snapshot and backup schedules all have to be re-established, and any Marketplace one-click image has to be rebuilt by hand on a provider that does not carry it.
DigitalOcean Holdings, Inc. is US-headquartered in New York and NYSE-listed. The European alternatives below sell the same flat-rate virtual machine, generally at lower prices and with more generous included bandwidth, under EU jurisdiction.
