European alternatives to OneDrive

OneDrive is Microsoft’s file sync and storage service, bundled with Microsoft 365 and built into Windows, where it backs up the Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders by default. In organisations it shares its storage layer with SharePoint and Teams, so a file posted in a Teams channel is a SharePoint file surfaced through OneDrive.

That makes it the hardest of the three big drives to unpick. Personal use is a straightforward folder migration. Business use means separating what is genuinely a drive from what is Teams history, SharePoint sites and Office co-authoring — and deciding whether Office documents move with it. Check how the alternative handles Windows desktop integration, which is where OneDrive’s advantage is structural rather than a feature.
