ByteDance

ByteDance Ltd. is a Chinese technology group founded in Beijing in 2012, best known for the short-video platforms Douyin and TikTok. CapCut, its video editor, began as the companion editing app for those platforms and is now used well beyond them.

The group is privately held and does not publish a shareholder register. Its Chinese domicile is what places CapCut outside the scope of this catalogue, and it is also the reason many users look for an alternative: editing footage in CapCut means uploading it to a service governed by Chinese law.
