European alternatives to CapCut

CapCut is ByteDance’s video editor, available on mobile, desktop and in the browser. It began as the companion editor for Douyin and TikTok and is now the default tool for a large share of short-form video: a multitrack timeline, automatic captions, a large template library, stock music and a growing set of AI tools for background removal, upscaling and voice.

Its grip comes from what it gives away. Core timeline editing, basic automatic captions and 1080p export are free and carry no watermark, which is unusual in this market and sets a hard ceiling for anything sold by the seat. CapCut Pro adds premium templates and effects, higher AI usage limits, 4K and 60fps export and cloud storage.

The reason to look elsewhere is not the feature list. CapCut is operated by a Chinese group, its terms have changed repeatedly, and for a business editing client footage or unreleased material the question is where that material is processed and under whose law.
