FL Studio is a digital audio workstation built around a step sequencer, a pattern-based playlist and a piano roll editor, developed in Ghent since 1998. It records multitrack audio — every mixer track can be armed at once, up to the full input count of the audio interface — hosts VST plugins, and ships a large bundled instrument and effect set.
Four editions are sold outright: Fruity at EUR 99, Producer at EUR 229, the Signature Bundle at EUR 319 and All Plugins at EUR 539. Every one carries what Image-Line calls Lifetime Free Updates, meaning the edition bought and the plugins included with it at the time of purchase are updated free for the life of the product. The company is explicit that this does not extend to instruments and effects later added to other editions.
Two gaps are worth knowing. There is no take-lane comping: multiple passes land as separate audio clips in the playlist, and assembling a composite means muting, slicing and consolidating by hand. And there is no notation editor — the export list runs to WAV, MP3, FLAC, OGG and MIDI, with no score format among them. The Fruity Video Player syncs video to the timeline for scoring, but FL Studio cannot render video back out.
About Image-Line
Image Line nv is a Belgian company registered at Franklin Rooseveltlaan 348/D in Ghent under enterprise number BE 0452.440.860, trading since 1994. Its terms name the Belgian entity and are governed exclusively by Belgian law, with claims brought before the courts of Ghent.
Waterland Private Equity, a Dutch firm, took a majority stake in February 2019. In April 2026 the fund’s Belgian holding vehicle was absorbed into Image Line Group BV, the Ghent company that now acts as director of the operating entity — a group reorganisation rather than an exit. Control therefore sits with Dutch and Luxembourg fund vehicles, which keeps the chain inside Europe.
The business is profitable and growing: revenue of EUR 46.7 million in FY2025, up 18.1 per cent on the year before. Its one product line is FL Studio, sold in four perpetual editions with lifetime free updates.
