OpenProject is an open-source project management application from OpenProject GmbH in Berlin. Work is organised as work packages — tasks, features, bugs, milestones — with Gantt charts, boards, wikis, time and cost tracking, budgets and meeting minutes on top. Time tracking and a per-project wiki are free, where Jira needs Tempo and Confluence for the same jobs.
Its agile layer is the part that competes with a developer issue tracker, and it is in the free Community edition rather than behind a paywall: sprints, story points, a task board and burndown charts. It is also the thinnest part of the product — only one sprint can be active at a time outside Enterprise, and there is no velocity chart at all. Repository integration covers GitHub and GitLab, with pull-request status and GitHub Actions results on a dedicated work-package tab; there is no Bitbucket support, and the link is pull-request-level rather than commit-level.
The free edition is self-hosted only. The managed cloud starts at five seats at EUR 5.95 each, and SSO, multiple active sprints, portfolio management and the custom-action buttons that stand in for automation are all Enterprise features. The documentation ranks portfolios and roadmaps above agile boards, which matches where the product’s weight actually sits.
The binding Terms of Service name OpenProject GmbH, Krausenstrasse 9, Berlin, with section 10 placing the agreement under German law and exclusive jurisdiction at the company’s registered office; the imprint gives Amtsgericht Charlottenburg HRB 117935 B. OpenProject North America, Inc. appears only as a subsidiary address. The product is a component of openDesk, the German public sector’s sovereign workplace suite.

OpenProject GmbH is a Berlin software company behind the open-source project management application of the same name. The imprint gives Krausenstrasse 9, 10117 Berlin, Amtsgericht Charlottenburg HRB 117935 B, VAT DE211309779, with Niels Lindenthal as managing director.
The binding Terms of Service name the GmbH as the contracting party and place the agreement under German law, with exclusive jurisdiction at the company’s registered office. OpenProject North America, Inc. exists as a subsidiary address only — the German company is the parent, not the other way round. Hosted customers’ data stays in German data centres.
The company sells an Enterprise edition on top of a GPL-licensed Community edition, and OpenProject is one of the components of openDesk, the sovereign workplace suite assembled for the German public sector. German GmbH financials are not publicly filed, so headcount and revenue are self-reported.
