European alternatives to Asana

Asana is a work management platform built around one idea: every piece of work is a task with an owner and a due date, and every view — list, board, timeline, calendar, Gantt — is a different lens on the same task objects. Portfolios roll projects up for executives, Goals tie them to OKRs, and Rules automate handoffs between stages.

The lock-in is structural rather than technical. Custom fields, project templates, approval rules and portfolio hierarchies encode how an organisation actually runs, and that configuration does not export. Neither do the comment threads where decisions were argued out, which is where the real project history lives. Teams that have wired Asana into Slack, Jira and their SSO directory find the integration surface, not the task data, is the expensive part to rebuild.

Asana, Inc. is US-headquartered in San Francisco and NYSE-listed. The European alternatives below differ most in deployment model: one is self-hostable open source, the other a managed EU-hosted service.
