European alternatives to Google Authenticator

Google Authenticator is Google’s free app for the six-digit one-time codes (TOTP and HOTP) that websites ask for at two-step sign-in. It runs on Android and iOS and generates codes without an internet connection.

Signed in to a Google Account, it syncs codes across a user’s devices, so a new phone receives them automatically. It can also be used without an account; codes then stay on the device and move to a new phone through a transfer QR code generated on the old one. Several other authenticator apps, including the European ones listed here, can import that QR code.

It drew about 10,900 English Wikipedia views a month over the year to September 2026, against about 1,300 for Microsoft Authenticator.
