Capture One Pro
RAW Photo Editing Denmark
Pro RAW editor with catalogs, layers, and leading tethered capture. Alternative to Adobe Lightroom.
Details
Capture One Pro is a desktop RAW developer and tethered-capture application for Windows and macOS, published by Capture One A/S in Denmark.
Work is organised either as catalogs or as per-shoot Sessions, which suits photographers who think in jobs rather than in one library. Editing is non-destructive and layer-based, with masking, heal and clone tools, and camera-specific colour profiles covering close to 600 bodies and 700 lenses. Tethered shooting is the feature the product is best known for and is stronger than Lightroom’s.
A companion iPhone and iPad app adds wireless tethering, Live View and the same editing core on location, along with Sessions, Live Collaboration and Cloud Settings.
Pricing is subscription: roughly EUR 20.50 a month for Pro desktop, EUR 28.00 for the All in One plan that adds mobile and collaboration, and EUR 52.92 for Studio, with a perpetual Pro licence at about EUR 391. There is no free tier, only a trial.
Two limits are worth stating plainly. There is no Android client, which the vendor’s own FAQ addresses, and Cloud Settings syncs settings rather than the image library, so there is no equivalent to Lightroom’s synced cloud catalog.
About Capture One
Capture One A/S is a Danish software company in Frederiksberg, CVR 17889699, with around 66 employees. The RAW converter began in 1994 inside the Phase One camera business and was spun out as its own company in 2019; a separate Phase One A/S (CVR 40986642) was formed that December for the hardware side.
The binding Master EULA names Capture One A/S as the contracting party and is governed by the laws of Denmark, with the District Court of Copenhagen as the court of first instance.
Majority control sits with Axcel, a Danish private-equity firm holding roughly 58% per the 2024 annual report, with the Danish pension fund ATP and senior staff holding the remainder. Axcel has been running a sale process through 2026; as of October 2026 no buyer has been announced.
