European alternatives to Adobe Lightroom

Adobe Lightroom is the photo-management and RAW-developing half of Adobe’s photography line, distinct from Photoshop, which does layered compositing. It organises images in a catalog, develops RAW files non-destructively, and applies local adjustments through masks that can select skies, subjects and faces automatically.

Adobe ships it in two forms. Lightroom Classic is the desktop-first application built around folders on your own disk and tethered shooting. Lightroom (the cloud version) keeps one library synced across desktop, web and phone, which is the thing most competitors cannot match.

It is sold by subscription rather than licence, typically through the Creative Cloud Photography plan, which bundles Lightroom with Photoshop and cloud storage. There is no free desktop tier; the free route is the mobile app, which gives presets, basic edits and colour grading at no cost, with storage and generative features behind a paid plan.

Adobe Inc. is a US company headquartered in San Jose, California, listed on Nasdaq as ADBE.
