European alternatives to Tailscale

Tailscale is a mesh VPN from Tailscale Inc., based in Toronto. A client on each laptop, phone or server signs in through an identity provider such as Google, Microsoft or GitHub, and the devices then connect directly to each other over WireGuard, with relay servers as a fallback when a direct path is blocked. Access rules, MagicDNS names, exit nodes, subnet routers and Tailscale SSH are managed from one admin console. The client is open source; the coordination service is Tailscale’s own hosted product.

The free Personal plan covers up to 6 users with unlimited user devices, for non-commercial use only. Standard costs USD 8 per user a month and Premium USD 18. In late October 2026 Tailscale disclosed privilege-escalation and forwarding flaws in Tailscale SSH and Tailscale Serve, fixed in version 1.104.4 (security bulletins TS-2026-014 to TS-2026-017).
