European alternatives to Jira

Jira is Atlassian’s issue tracker. It was built for software teams, and since Jira Software and Jira Work Management were merged into a single product in May 2024 it has been marketed as general work management — the current homepage headline is “Project Management for the AI Era” and names marketing, HR, operations, product and engineering alike.

The product underneath is still a developer tool, and that is what readers looking for an alternative are usually replacing. Its documentation ships scrum and kanban boards, sprints, backlogs, story points, and burndown, burnup and velocity reports. Its development panel links Bitbucket, GitHub and GitLab so branches, commits and pull requests appear against an issue, and they can be queried from the issue search language.

Jira Cloud is free for up to 10 users with 2 GB of storage. Standard is $7.91 per user per month and Premium $14.54, with data residency, advanced automation and administrative controls on the paid tiers. The practical lock-in is the Atlassian Marketplace: it carries thousands of apps, and most developer tools ship a Jira integration before any other.
